Northallerton sits just off the A1(M), roughly thirty minutes north-west of our Middlesbrough base, and the A19 and A167 give straightforward routes in from the Teesside side. That means we can fit inspections and jobs into the same working week as our Yarm, Stockton and Darlington work rather than treating Northallerton as a special trip.

As a market town, Northallerton has a busy High Street with restricted access on market days, so for town-centre properties we plan scaffold delivery and parking around that rather than turning up unannounced. Estate and village addresses around Romanby and Brompton are generally straightforward for access and material delivery.

The town centre has a good number of Georgian and Victorian stone and brick buildings, many with steep slate roofs, dormers and older lead flashing that has never been properly renewed. Just off the High Street there are traditional coaching yards and cottages with more complex, older roof structures. Romanby and the southern edge of town have interwar and post-war semis and bungalows on clay or concrete tile roofs.

Further out, the newer estate developments on the edges of Northallerton use standard concrete interlocking tiles, while the surrounding villages, Brompton, Great Smeaton, Ainderby Steeple, mix stone farmhouses and cottages with more recent infill housing, often with exposed rural roof pitches that take the full force of open North Yorkshire weather.

On the town centre's older stone and slate buildings, chimney repair, re-pointing and lead flashing renewal are frequent jobs, since many of these roofs have multiple chimney stacks and complex junctions that have not been touched in years. Slate slipping and lead work around dormers is another regular call.

On the estate housing around Romanby and the newer developments, we more often deal with dry verge and dry ridge upgrades where mortar bedding has cracked, gutter and fascia replacement where original UPVC has aged, and moss removal on shaded roofs near mature gardens. In the outlying villages, exposed rural pitches mean roof repairs after storm damage are more common than in the sheltered parts of town.
