Thornaby-on-Tees sits directly across the river from Middlesbrough and next to Stockton-on-Tees, and it is one of the closest towns to our own base, so it gets covered as thoroughly as anywhere on our patch. We work the traditional terraced streets near the town centre and Thornaby Road, the postwar council-built estates around Mandale and Barker's Lane, and the newer housing towards Thornaby Green and Bader Avenue near the old airfield.

Because Thornaby is only a short run from our Middlesbrough base, we can often fit a look in quickly, usually within a day or two of your call, and we are already familiar with the mix of roof types and ages found street by street across the town, from Victorian slate to 1960s concrete tile to modern estate roofs.

Thornaby is easy to reach off the A66 and A1130, with Thornaby railway station and the Teesside International Airport site to the south as clear reference points. Access from our Middlesbrough base takes us straight across the river via the A66 or Victoria Bridge, which keeps travel time minimal for both routine work and anything urgent.

The older terraced streets near the town centre and along Thornaby Road can have tighter on-street parking, so we plan scaffold and skip delivery around that in advance. The newer estates towards Mandale and Thornaby Green generally have wider roads and driveways, making access more straightforward.

Thornaby's older core, around the town centre, Trenchard Avenue and the streets running off Thornaby Road, has a genuine mix of Victorian and Edwardian terraces with slate roofs and decorative brick chimneys, alongside interwar semis with concrete tiles and timber roofline that is now well past its best. Many of these properties still have their original mortar-bedded ridges and ageing lead flashing around chimneys.

The postwar estates around Mandale and Barker's Lane are largely 1950s–1970s concrete tile roofs with timber or early UPVC roofline, while the more recent development near Thornaby Green and towards the old airfield brings modern build standards with dry verge and UPVC roofline fitted as standard. This range of ages within a compact town means we see every category of job here, sometimes on the same street.

On the older terraces and semis, the frequent calls are chimney re-pointing and rebuilds, replacing failed lead flashing at chimney and bay abutments, and swapping cracked mortar-bedded ridges for mechanically fixed dry ridge. Rotten timber fascias on the postwar estate houses around Mandale are also a common job, usually resolved with a UPVC roofline replacement that ends the ongoing maintenance.

On the newer housing near Thornaby Green, the work tends to be lighter: gutter clearing and resetting, occasional storm-damaged tiles, and flashing checks around dormer windows.
